When the old years come to an end and the new ones are set to begin, people are struck by a certain melancholy. Even more so after a year like 2020. Blessings are counted, learnings are embraced and promises are made to do everything better in the new year. While I find these processes rather amusing at times, I also understand the urge to do so. Only goals and dreams move people forward and I encourage everyone to dare to dream. Personally, I create a list of inspiration, a list of ideas for the months ahead.

Setting your intentions for 2021

So over the last days of the old year and the first days of the new year, I sit down, review the old year, write down some highlights, find a word that summarizes the year (so challenging but I love it) and think about aspects I could do better. In 2019, for example, I wrote down that I would like to leave some stress in the old year and start the year with a better work-life-balance. Thanks to covid, I could reach that goal.

While most of my goals have been rather personal, I decided to mix it up this year and add personal and professional goals to my list. So this week I worked on my list “21 ideas for 2021”. Some of my private ones are “Developing a running routine”, “reading 20 books”, “be more creative and adventurous in the kitchen”, or “show courage”. But here I would like to focus on some of the professional goals:

  1. Professionalize my blog: Regular post on personal branding, business development and female empowerment

  2. Professionalize my LinkedIn presence

  3. Take a writing course and improve my writing skills

  4. Develop my calligraphy skills

  5. Read books on personal and business development

In recent years, I have often made the mistake that some of my ideas were difficult to measure. Although I don’t find this bad in general and some goals can also act as regular reminders (show courage), I would like to be able to implement a few goals directly this year. One step is already done: I’ve signed up for the writing course, which starts at the end of January. More on that in an upcoming post.

What goals/ideas/intentions did you put on your list? Have you already started to initiate some of your goals, maybe with decisions you took in 2020?

Finishing this article with the worlds of the one and only Helen Mirren:

“Be happy with what you have while working for what you want.”
